Food Bank
A big thanks to Event World
On behalf of Food Bank South Africa and the community we serve, we take this opportunity to
express our sincere appreciation to Event World for giving us a chance to get involved in one of the biggest events in South Africa, the Vodacom Durban July!
We received 410kgs of food from different suppliers, and divided the food between 4 organisations situated in Umlazi Township:
- Vukani Community Project
Vukani Community Project was founded in August 2004 by Jabulile Khambule. The project aims to provide a valuable service to community elders, physically and mentally disabled and vulnerable women and children (over 300 people) - their primary focus is home-based care.
- Isiphiwo Community Project
This is a community-based organization (CBO), operates as an independent entity, and serves as a platform to help men, women and children overcome social, political and economic obstacles facing the poor community in this country. They prepare meals three times a week to feed individual families (300 families) in the community of Umlazi.
- Bambisandla Traumatised Children Centre
Gloria Shabalala is the founder of this centre; she has turned her home with her own resources into a shelter for traumatised children. Police and social workers drop off children with Gloria but provide no assistance. She currently looks after 35 children; her organisation is in a three year sustainable development program with Food Bank SA.
- Maskey Home Base Care
This organization provides care to the poor and vulnerable people suffering from cancer, TB, AIDS and other sicknesses. They have the capacity to help roughly 100 people.
Food Bank directly gives food support to more than 100 000 families nationwide, in Durban we have more than 10 000 families involved in our food support program - your support goes a long way in assisting to advance our program as we work to address food insecurity and malnutrition in the lives of ordinary citizens in this country.
Thank you for making a difference, we appreciate your amazing support!
Yours sincerely,
Ntomby Ngema
